Frequently asked questions
Short answers about how CoffeeModes works, what it costs, and what our labels mean.
What is CoffeeModes?
CoffeeModes is a curated discovery platform for paid opportunities. We collect listings from research firms, brands, universities, foundations and organizers, review each one by hand, and publish only the ones with a real provider, clear compensation and a clear application method.
What kinds of paid opportunities does CoffeeModes list?
Research studies, gigs, grants, competitions, creator projects and employment advertisements. Compensation and any non-cash benefits must be described accurately. Pay-to-work and fees to unlock promised compensation are prohibited; clearly disclosed lawful event admission or optional expenses are reviewed under Posting Standards.
How are opportunities reviewed?
Every submission enters a moderation queue. A reviewer examines the stated organizer, application method, compensation, eligibility and deadline. Editorial review does not mean every provider or listing is independently verified. Listings that do not meet our standards are sent back for changes or rejected.
How do saved searches work?
Set filters on Explore — category, location, remote, minimum compensation, deadline — and save them. Each newly published listing is matched against your saved searches, and you are notified by email or push depending on your notification settings. You can edit or delete a saved search at any time.
What does Featured mean?
Featured means the provider or submitter paid for extra visibility for a fixed number of days. It is advertising, it is always labelled, and it does not change how the listing was reviewed or imply that CoffeeModes recommends it.
What is a CoffeeModes Pick?
A CoffeeModes Pick is an editorial selection made by our team because the opportunity is unusually worthwhile — good compensation for the time, a credible provider and a low-friction application. Picks cannot be purchased and are labelled separately from Featured listings.
How does CoffeeModes Plus work?
Plus is an optional subscription billed monthly or annually. It adds member benefits such as expanded saved-search capacity, earlier access surfaces and a discount on featured placement. You can cancel any time and keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
How can someone report an inaccurate opportunity?
Use the report control on any listing page to tell us the details are wrong, the deadline has passed, the link is broken or the opportunity looks unsafe. Reports go straight to the moderation queue, and you can also email support@coffeemodes.com.
Does CoffeeModes cost anything?
Browsing, saving opportunities and applying are free. Optional paid products have separate terms; a one-time standard listing fee buys publication for the stated duration, not hiring, participation or applicant counts. You never pay CoffeeModes an application or placement fee. Paid sales remain unavailable pending separate activation.
Who pays participants?
The provider running the opportunity is responsible for paying participants directly, on the terms stated in their own application process. CoffeeModes is not the payer and does not handle participant compensation.
Can I submit my own opportunity?
Yes. Submit an authorized opportunity for editorial review from Post on CoffeeModes. Submitting for review is not a purchase. Posters provide accurate compensation and eligibility, control screening and selection, and fulfill their obligations. New employment advertisements use an employer-controlled external application page; non-employment opportunities may use optional poster-controlled questions on CoffeeModes.
Where does CoffeeModes operate?
CoffeeModes launched in New York City and also lists remote opportunities open to participants elsewhere. More cities are being added as coverage grows.
What happens to expired opportunities?
Once a deadline passes, the listing is labelled expired and its application button is disabled, but the page stays available for reference with links to current alternatives in the same category.
